A bell is a metal percussion instrument that is struck to make a single, strong tone. Bells are often made of a kind of bronze called bell metal, which has the property of making very resonant instruments.
Bells can be struck externally by a beater, or by an internal beater called a clapper. Some bells have a loose sphere of metal inside them which strikes the bell when it is shaken and there are called jingle bells.
