Bell ringing is when you ring church bells or hand bells. Bell ringing is not written on a standard score but is instead performed completely by memory. Bell ringers learn the part that their bell plays in a sequence – this normally starts with ringing down the scale and then the order of the bells changes to make different melodies.

In bell ringing, a ‘peal’ is a period of ringing which can last up to three hours with over 5000 changes! This is often done to celebrate special occasions, such as weddings.
