Tomaga are a two-piece band, drummer Valentina Magaletti and bassist Tom Relleen based in London. Like Pierre Bastien they also experiment with creating their own instruments. Tomaga is formed around the idea of the rhythm section, the drums and the bass, often relegated to the background of larger bands. With Tomaga they wish to reverse that arrangement and dispense with the typical foreground parts like vocalists and guitarists. With this focus in mind, they explore the possibilities of extracting different sounds out of the drums and bass through the use of contact microphones, oscillators and tuned percussion. Stylistically Tomaga lean towards a music that is influenced by industrial, jazz and psychedelic and minimalism.
