Regent is a recording company started in 1988 by Gary Cole, who obtained music degrees and awards from the Royal College of Music and Cambridge University, where he held an Organ Scholarship. He also obtained the Coventry Cathedral Recital Award in the Fellowship examination of the Royal College of Organists, and has made several recordings with his own chamber choir – one of which was a BBC Radio Three Building a Library 1st choice recommendation. He is an experienced church musician having been Director of Music at St Peter’s Collegiate Church, Wolverhampton from 1998 to 2001. In 1994 Gary’s wife, Pippa – a former Choral Scholar at King’s College, London – took over the administration of Regent Records. In addition to scientific and business experience, Pippa sings in various groups and has taken part in many radio broadcasts and commercial recordings.
Most of their work is producing master tapes for other record labels, and they are now regarded as one of the top classical location recording companies in the UK. They have produced over 500 CD recordings – many award-winning – for many major companies, including Amon Ra, ASV, Carlton Classics (Pickwick/IMP), Chandos, CRD, Hyperion, Marco Polo, Meridian, Naxos, Nimbus, and Olympia, as well as releases on their own label and programmes for BBC Radio Three. They have produced for many well-known choirs, ensembles and solo artists.
