Mighty Sparrow

Mighty Sparrow was born July 9th, 1935, in Grenada, a small island country in the West Indies and was named Mighty Sparrow as he was known to be extremely energetic on stage. Although Mighty sparrow was known for playing Calypso music he also incorporated Soca which draws influence from East Indian rhythms and hooks. 

Soca is a different type of kaiso/calypso and is heavily linked to the street carnival that happens in Trinidad and Tobago. The traditional calypso began to lose its popularity amongst the youth in Trinidad due to the success of other music genres like reggae from Jamaica and soul and funk from the US.
