The Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra is a Turkish symphony orchestra based in Istanbul. It was founded in 1945 as the Istanbul Municipality City Orchestra and in 1972 it became the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra. With the establishment of the Turkish republic in 1923, the founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk wanted to introduce more Western-style organisation to classical music such as finding of the State Symphony Orchestras or opening the first conservatory in 1936.
