A string quartet is a group of four musicians who play stringed instruments comprising two violins, a viola and a cello and is also the name of a piece of music written for this group of instruments. It is a commonly-found type of chamber group and there is a large amount of chamber music composed for this combination of instruments. String quartets, both the group and the written music, date back from the 1750s and still exist today!
