A sampled voice is when you take a section of a recording of someone singing and you reuse it in a different piece of music. This process is called sampling and is a crucial part of modern hip hop, pop, dance and indie rock music.
Sampling was originally done with an electronic or digital device called a sampler, but today computer programmes can perform the same function. Sampling provides many creative opportunities – for example, you could take a line from a much older, famous song and use it to develop a new piece of music. Looping is when you repeat a short sample over and over again, such as a lyric to a song.
