Rhythm is the combination of different lengths of notes or silences within the framework of a steady pulse. It is most easily understood in the context of songs where it is “the pattern of the syllables”. In Western culture rhythm notation includes crochets and quavers. Silences are called “rests”. Pulse and rhythm are sometimes confused. This is possibly because babies bouncing to the pulse are always told they have a good sense of rhythm!
