Pop music comes from the term ‘popular music’. It can include elements of many different musical genres, such as urban, dance, rock, latin and country, which are brought together to appeal to a mass audience.

The term was first used in Britain from the mid-1950s to describe rock and roll music and was applied to famous artists such as the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. Pop music is diverse in style but often includes dance-orientated rhythms and a verse-chorus form, which help to make the music catchy! Recent types of pop music include indie pop, Europop, R & B, dance pop and synth pop.
