The oboe is a double reed woodwind instrument usually made of wood with metal keys. It has a distinctive and penetrating sound and is used in orchestras, wind bands and in chamber music. Some people say it sounds a little like a duck and in Prokofiev’s piece Peter and the Wolf it is indeed used to represent the character of the duck!
