These minutes are all related to migration. Migration is when people move from one place to another!

Migration is a crucial part of British history. For thousands of years, people have been coming to Britain to settle and live. The Saxons, the Danes and then the Normans were all immigrants, who settled in Britain. They all brought new cultures, skills and languages.

People migrate to Britain for lots of reasons. One of these minutes, called ‘Mighty River’, is a celebration of African American people who came to Hull in 1871 after being freed from slavery.

Many British people also migrate to other countries. One of these minutes, called ‘Lost Indian’, shows how British, Scottish and Irish people brought folk music with them when they migrated to the United States.
