These minutes (and many others!) involve computers. But when were computers invented and how have they changed national life?

In 1833, a man called Charles Babbage invented all the parts that are now used for a modern computer. It took 120 years, though, for the first ‘modern’ computer to be invented by Konard Zuse. Early computers in the 1940s were the size of a small room and used masses of electricity!

After 1980, more modern and useable computers emerged. The first one gigabyte disk drive was released, which weighed a whopping 227kg!

Computers changed the way people worked, socialised and lived their everyday lives. People began to use the internet and email to communicate with each other across the globe, rather than faxes or letters.

Computers have also changed the kind of music is produced, as you can hear in these minutes!
