Clapping is when you strike your hands together to make a sound. It is used in many different styles of music and dance, as well as to show applause or appreciation. For example, clapping is an important part of gospel music and servillanas, a type of folk music originating in Sevilla in Spain.
Some composers have created pieces performed entirely by clapping, such as Steve Reich’s Clapping Music (1972)!
