Beat boxing is a type of vocal percussion involving copying the sound of drum machines using your mouth, lips, tongue and voice.
Similar techniques to beat boxing were used in America in the nineteenth century, such as in ragtime, religious and rural music. Today, beat boxing is most associated with hip hop culture. In 2006, a standard beatbox notation system was developed so beat boxers can write down their music and teach it to others!
