Articulation describes how a particular note is played. Notes could be short and spikey (staccato) or smooth and connected (legato), for example. Composers use symbols or articulation marks in their music to help musicians to know what the composer intends. Changing the articulation of how music is played can change the character of how it sounds – why don’t you try changing the articulation of some music you know? You could experiment on an instrument or with your voice!
