Lalgudi Jayaraman is a world-renowned Carnatic violinist. He began his musical career aged 12, by accompanying other prominent musicians and was taught by Thyagaraja and V R Gopala Iyer.
After performing at the Edinburgh Music Festival, the violinist Yehudi Menuhin was so impressed that he gave his Italian violin to Lalgudi. Under the East West Exchange Programme, Lalgudi toured extensively around the world.
Lalgudi has also composed a dance opera called ‘Jaya Jaya Devi’ which was performed in 25 cities in the United States of America. He has received many awards and accolades from his music and continues to compose and create today.
