GoGo Penguin
GoGo Penguin are a Manchester-based piano trio performing music inspired equally by rock, jazz and minimalism, game soundtracks and glitchy-electronica. The band is formed of Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka and drummer Rob Turner.
Their album ‘v2.0’ (Gondwana records) was shortlisted for Mercury Prize Album of the year in 2014. In 2015 they signed to Blue Note Records, releasing ‘Man Made Object’ in 2016. Recent work includes a new score to Godfrey Reggio’s cult film Koyaanisqatsi, which the band have been touring. Their new album, A Humdrum Star will be released in February 2018.
Though they are tipped as one of the rising stars of the UK jazz scene, GoGo Penguin describe themselves as being a resurgence of jazz fused with other contemporary styles.
