Anuradha Pal is a woman tabla virtuoso. She has been titled the ‘first professional female tabla player in the world’. This demonstrates what a rarity it is to find professional woman tabla players, even in the twenty first century!
Unlike many Indian musicians, Anuradha was not born into a ‘traditional’ musical family with musician parents. She began training under Sri Manikrao Popatkar and Pt. Madan Mishra of the Benares Gharana. She later studied tabla under Zakir Hussain and Ustad Alla Rakha.
Anuradha has performed extensively in prestigious festivals in India, USA, Europe, UK, Japan, Australia, Africa, Brazil, Middle east, Hong Kong, Bangkok; presenting popular, innovative concerts.
Fun fact: Anuradha performed at the Woodstock Festival in 2008 for an audience of 400,000 people!
